Dahlia 'Pacific Jewel'

Dahlia 'Pacific Jewel'

One of our favourite new introductions of recent years, Dahlia 'Pacific Jewel' is an elegant, compact cultivar with small, dainty flowers. Measuring around 8cm across, each bloom is a pale soft pink with a darker, yellow tinged centre. The contrasting dark stems of Dahlia 'Pacific Jewel' are particularly sturdy, meaning plants rarely require support. It also means they make excellent cut flowers, so make sure you plant plenty of extras for the vase!

Native to Central and South America, dahlias are half-hardy and will need a little help to get through our cold, damp winters. If you have heavy soil or live somewhere prone to hard frosts, the best approach is to lift and store the Dahlia 'Pacific Jewel' tubers in a greenhouse or shed. If you garden on light, well-draining soil, or live in a milder area (usually southern or coastal regions), you will probably get away with leaving them in the ground with a thick layer of mulch.
